CEPROF is an acronym for School Centers for Vocational Education. It is an SME established in 1991 specifically for the creation of the Escola Profissional de Espinho (ESPE) and is one of the oldest VET schools in Portugal (until 2004 all VET schools in Portugal were private). ESPE/CEPROF is authorized to operate as a VET school (Authorization of Operation nr. 27) and is accredited by the Portuguese Ministry of Education. ESPE/CEPROF also integrates a “Professional Guidance and Counseling Center”, through its Qualifications Center (Centro Qualifica). This center not only provides professional guidance and advice personalized by technicians from this Center (usually Psychologists), but also validation and certification of professional competences for people over 21 years of age. In this process of validating and certifying professional skills, trainees are guided to prepare a portfolio, in which they show their professional skills and that they are willing to receive additional training to fill in the missing skills.
